Trump’s ‘border czar’ warns Democratic governments that reject Trump’s deportation plan: ‘Get the hell out of the way’

Thomas Homan, whom President-elect Donald Trump named “border czar” on Sunday evening, has a clear message to all Democratic governors who oppose the planned mass deportations.

“If they’re not willing to help, then get the hell out of the way because [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] will do their job,” Homan, who was acting ICE director during the first Trump administration, said in an interview with Fox News Digital on Friday.

Trump announced on Sunday that Homan would be appointed “border czar” and would be responsible for the borders and “all deportations of illegal aliens back to their country of origin” in the new administration.

The Democratic governor is threatening to use “every tool” to resist Trump-era deportations

Ahead of the announcement, Fox News asked Homan about comments from Democratic governors who indicated they would not cooperate with the administration on the mass deportation of illegal immigrants.

Mass. Gov. Maura Healey said last week that “every tool in the toolbox must be used to protect our citizens, our residents and our states and to uphold the line of democracy and the rule of law as fundamental principles.”

“No. Absolutely not,” she said last week when asked if state police would help with deportations.

Homan, a Fox News contributor, suspects some “sanctuaries” will cooperate with the government.

“They won’t say it, but with all the alien crime and sexual assaults and murders of young women, some sheriffs have come forward and worked with us behind the scenes,” he said.

Although he said it would be useful to have the “force multiplier” of support from state and local governments and allow agents access to county jails where serious illegal immigrant criminals are held, he said a lack of that help would not hamper operations stop.

“If you don’t want to work with us, get going immediately and we’ll do it. This means that instead of sending 100 people to Boston, we send 200 agents to Boston. We will get the job done,” he said.

“We have a mandate. I think the American people just gave President Trump a mandate. That’s why he was elected – to secure the border, save lives and deport people, especially when there are threats to national security and public safety. So if you don’t have a mandate to help us, step aside, but don’t stand in our way because there will be consequences.

Homan said the immediate focus will be on those illegal immigrants with criminal convictions or charges, as was the case under the first Trump administration.

“There will be no massive raid on the neighborhoods, there will be no massive raids. It will be a targeted enforcement action,” he said.

However, he cautioned that this does not mean anyone is off the table. “If you are in a country illegally, you have a problem.”

Homan argues that millions of people who entered illegally through the southern border under the Biden administration must face consequences for those found not to have a valid asylum claim, or there will be no real due process.

“There will be a massive deportation operation because we have seen unprecedented massive illegal immigration, with 90% of refugees being deported. “It’s common sense,” he said.

He also said many illegal immigrants are likely to leave on their own if incentives to cross the border are removed. In his opinion, how many can be removed depends on the resources made available.

“It depends on resources, money. But I guarantee you that President Trump means what he says and that there will be a green light to enforce our laws and secure this border. And that will require a mass deportation operation,” he said.

Homan, a former New York City police officer, border patrol agent and ICE chief, was widely expected to play a key role in the mass deportation effort. A 2016 Washington Post article said that Homan “deports people. And he’s really good at it.”

Homan said Friday of his potential role in government: “I’ll say this: I didn’t ask for a position. I certainly didn’t ask for a cabinet position. President Trump knows that if he needs me for a deportation operation, if he needs me to secure the border, I am ready to help in any way possible and he will decide what he wants from me or whether he want me to do it.

Instead, he emphasized the threat at the border and the incoming government’s determination to resolve it.

“The southern border is the largest national security breach I have seen in my life. It should be a bipartisan issue. People shouldn’t threaten me with death and hate me. Securing the border should be a bipartisan issue,” he said. “And we’ll get there… I don’t care what people think, we’ll get there.”
