Did the Rams just take a hit in the key race?

The Los Angeles Rams couldn’t get over .500 against the Miami Dolphins last night as the Dolphins won 23-15. The loss not only affects the team’s overall record, but also pushes them further back into their division.

In Week 10, the Rams’ division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers, won. The Ram’s loss dropped them to 4-5 on the season and dropped them from second place in the division to third place with the Seattle Seahawks.

In hindsight, the Rams really needed this win to stay competitive with the rest of the division.

While the Rams outperformed the Dolphins in certain offensive numbers, Miami beat Los Angeles due to their adequate production when the ball was within their reach. The Rams finished the game with 327 total yards, 257 passing yards, 70 rushing yards and an average of 4.8 yards per play, which was better than the Dolphins in every category.

Miami’s defense seemed to have the answers to the Rams’ offense all night long, which included multiple aspects of pressure by subbing the quarterback or not allowing Matthew Stafford to locate and succeed with his throws. Rams fans were less pleased with their team’s performance on social media.

Although the Rams took a step back in the division yesterday, there are still ways to improve their standings without facing their division rivals. In the next two weeks, the Seattle Seahawks will play both the Cardinals and the 49ers in the NFL.

Seattle had a bye week in Week 10 after losing their Week 9 game to the Rams. The Rams won’t face a division opponent again until December 12th, when they face the current NFC West Division leaders, the Arizona Cardinals.

The NFC West is still open and up for grabs for each of the four teams. The Rams were on the wrong end of the schedule this week as the other two division teams (under Seattle) picked up a win.

The Rams defense couldn’t find an answer on defense to keep the Miami offense off the field, but didn’t underperform as they kept their team in the game. The Rams will need to bounce back next week against a struggling New England Patriots team to get back to a balanced record.
