Trump reportedly picks Kristi Noem to head Department of Homeland Security | Trump administration

President-elect Donald Trump has picked South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to be the next secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, CNN reported Tuesday, citing two sources.

Noem, once considered a possible candidate for Trump, is currently serving her second four-year term as governor of South Dakota after winning a landslide re-election victory in 2022 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Noem has had a turbulent few months politically this year.

In April of this year, she faced intense backlash when she wrote in her memoir that she shot an “untrainable” dog that she “hated” on her family’s farm, prompting some Trump advisers to say they believed Noem’s hold The former’s The Eyes of the President fell at the time when she was still a candidate for vice president.

Both the Trump campaign and Noem’s office did not respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.

The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for everything from border protection and immigration to disaster relief and U.S. intelligence.

Trump named Tom Homan as his administration’s new “border czar” on Monday. Homan said he would prioritize deporting illegal immigrants who pose a threat to public safety and national security.
