Will Tropical Storm Sara form in the Caribbean and hit Florida?

MIAMI – A disturbance prevailing over the central Caribbean Sea has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression by the end of the week. Some computer forecast models show that Tropical Storm Sara could eventually occur.

There are less than three weeks until the official end of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, and this new area of ​​likely tropical development is emerging just days after the remnants of Tropical Storm Rafael dissipated over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said early Tuesday morning that a tropical wave over the central Caribbean continues to produce an area of ​​disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

“We’ve seen a lot more thunderstorm development,” said FOX weather meteorologist Britta Merwin. “I mean, (Monday) there was nothing going on in the central Caribbean. Yes, we had thunderstorms over Puerto Rico. We observed things in Costa Rica. But we have seen a noticeable increase via satellite in the last 24 hours.”

Environmental conditions in the region appear to be conducive to further development and a tropical depression is likely to form later this week. After that, the disturbance is expected to spread across the western Caribbean by the weekend and slowly spread northward early next week, according to the NHC.

“I think it goes without saying that if you have plans in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Cancun, Cozumel, Cuba and even South Florida, you just need to make sure that’s the case by next week.” are watching,” said FOX weather meteorologist Michael Estime.

As of Tuesday morning, the NHC gives the system a medium chance of developing over the next two days and a high chance of developing over the next week.
