Ridgeview Elementary School Targeted by Fake Call for Service | News

Colorado Springs police say a frightening report of a man with a gun near a local school on Tuesday appears to be fake.

Around 11 a.m., Colorado Springs police received reports that a man with a rifle was making threats outside Ridgeview Elementary School. However, following the response and investigation, police stated that this incident appeared to be a “hoax.”

The department has had no further reports of shots fired or injuries. No one matching the original description was found near the District 49 school, located east of the intersection of Dublin and North Powers boulevards.

According to a department spokesman, officers were still on the scene at midday but will soon vacate.

During the investigation and “out of an abundance of caution,” the school was placed on lockdown, meaning the exterior doors were locked but the school day continued uninterrupted inside, the spokesman said.

According to an online blotter posting, police say they will continue to investigate the hoax call, which has impacted additional schools.
