After Mark Harmon left NCIS At the start of season 19, the actor finally returned to the franchise for the prequel series NCIS: Origins (which is now airing on the 2024 TV schedule). Harmon serves as executive producer on the series, which follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs as a fledgling NIS agent at the fledgling Camp Pendleton in 1991, shortly after the deaths of his wife and daughter. In addition to serving as a producer, the actor also serves as the prequel’s narrator and even briefly steps in as Gibbs in the series premiere. Although fans are excited that Harmon is back, obviously not everyone agrees.

Even if Harmon plays a “regressive role”. NCIS: Originsit’s still exciting to see him back in the franchise after playing such a big role in it for nearly two decades. But even though he’s only been away for a few years, he reportedly acts like it’s been a lot longer and can’t stop snooping around, sources tell RadarOnline:

For someone who said he was retiring three years ago, Mark is still very immersed in the franchise and has a say in everything from the cast to the storylines. He is still an executive producer and is pushing his involvement as far as he can. He can’t help it!

So far, Harmon has only appeared in the first episode of origins, but he could appear in more appearances, especially since the series ran for a full season.

During his time on OriginsWe know that Harmon advised the cast and gave Austin Stowell some very sage advice for his Gibbs audition. Meanwhile he hasn’t returned yet NCIS, and it is not known whether he ever will. However, the prequel is reportedly keeping him as busy as ever that people reportedly don’t like the whole intrusion:

He has his opinions to share with the younger generation and is not afraid to hand out testimonials and judgments from afar. There are certainly some people who would appreciate a little wisdom, but others find Mark’s constant meddling annoying and wish he would take it easier.

Obviously this is all just speculation and we don’t really know if this is what’s happening on the set of Origins.

Aside from that, the series has already proven to be a great spin-off, with only a handful of episodes having aired. It features characters old and new and a story that has never been told before. Overall, it was entertaining to see this new side of Gibbs, and it feels like it comes full circle that Harmon is also involved in this project.

The prequel is now one of two new spin-offs NCIS Franchise. Fans can also look forward to the highly anticipated event NCIS: Tony & Ziva Series that will soon be available with a Paramount+ subscription. Starring fan favorites Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, the series follows its beloved title characters as they flee through Europe.

All in all, despite rumors that Harmon was overbearing on set NCIS The franchise is as strong as ever. However, as we learn more about these claims, we will be sure to update you.
