“We tried to get him”

Back in August, just a few weeks after the release of Deadpool and WolverineMarvel concept artist Rodney Fuentebella revealed an early-stage illustration he created to imagine the Deadpool Corps. The fight sequence from the movie might have looked like this. It featured the army of Deadpool variants, including a now-scrapped Dinopool (a Deadpool T-Rex) battling Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson, Hugh Jackman’s Logan, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Chris’ Johnny Storm Evans fought and, to fans’ surprise, Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider.

“This was in the early stages of filming the film, so a lot has changed,” Fuentebella wrote in the caption.

accession Weekly entertainment‘S Prize winner In the podcast, Reynolds and Jackman, as well as director Shawn Levy, recalled their efforts to get Cage to appear in Ghost Rider, even though they didn’t get the result they were hoping for.

“They were in early drafts,” Reynolds, who also wrote and executive produced, confirms of Affleck and Cage. “We had versions of it [sequence]but then when it came out, you kind of look… We’re also trying to make the film responsibly. It’s a big budget. It’s the biggest budget of any Deadpool movie, but you want to put as many limitations on yourself as possible, which I think encourages asymmetrical thinking and creativity. Having too much time or too much money usually destroys this type of creativity. So, yes, you are downsizing things.”

“But we talked to Nic Cage,” the actor continues. “We tried to get him but he was a no-go… I would have loved him.”

Like Garner and Snipes, Cage and Affleck played Marvel heroes in films then owned by 20th Century Fox, the studio that has since been folded into the Walt Disney Company and renamed 20th Century Studios. Cage headlined in 2007 Ghost RiderHe plays motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a fiery agent of justice after selling his soul to save a loved one. He returned to the role for the 2011 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Affleck, meanwhile, appeared as Marvel’s Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in 2003 Daredevilwhich also marked the introduction of Garner’s Elektra.

“Luckily we got a lot of yes votes,” adds Levy. Those yes votes included Snipes, Garner, Evans, Henry Cavill (the Cavill-Rine-Wolverine variant), Channing Tatum (Gambit) and Dafne Keen (X-23/Laura). “Especially because Ryan just called her directly,” says the filmmaker. “He would raid FaceTime a lot and embarrass her.”

Cage recently took on a different kind of superhero role. He appeared as an alternate reality version of Superman in DC’s The lightningbringing a role he would have played in to life Superman is alivea film that Tim Burton was supposed to direct before the whole thing was canceled.

“I find [The Flash filmmaker Andy Muschietti] is a great director, he’s a great guy and a great director, and I loved both of his It “I was just supposed to stand in another dimension, if you will, and witness the destruction of the universe,” Cage previously said of this Superman appearance.
