Vice President of Equatorial Guinea warns against sex in the office after Baltasar Ebang Engonga videos

Officials caught having sex in their offices will face “severe action,” Equatorial Guinea’s vice president has warned after hundreds of allegedly pornographic videos were leaked.

The videos reportedly feature senior official Baltasar Ebang Engonga having sex with various women, including the wives of prominent officials, in his office.

Mr Engonga is the head of the country’s National Financial Investigation Agency and is also a relative of the country’s president.

The BBC has contacted him for comment.

On his Facebook page, Mr Engonga posted that he was sad, along with a photo of him with a wife and children with the caption: “Family is everything”.

Vice President Teodoro Obiang Mangue said any officials found to have engaged in sexual conduct in the workplace would be suspended as it constituted a “flagrant violation of the code of conduct.”

He has also ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in courts and ministries to combat “immoral and unlawful acts.”

A statement from the Vice President’s office said the decision was made in the wake of widely circulated videos that “denigrated the country’s image.”

He added that he had recommended that an investigation be launched.

The videos in question were leaked after Mr Engonga was arrested on various corruption charges, state television TVGE said.

Last week, Vice President Obiang said “pornographic videos” had “flooded” social media and called on telecommunications companies to curb their spread.

Since then, the flow of internet traffic – particularly image downloading – has been severely disrupted in the country, people in Equatorial Guinea told AFP.

As head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, Mr Engonga works to combat financial crimes such as money laundering.

Following the uproar over the videos, Equatorial Guinea’s chief prosecutor, Anatolio Nzang Nguema, told state television that Mr Engonga would be prosecuted for a “public health” offense if he was found to be “infected with a sexually transmitted disease.” be.

Because of his good looks, he is reportedly nicknamed “Bello” – Spanish for “beautiful.”
