1 dead, several injured in boat accident in Key West

KEY WEST, Fla. – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating a fatal boating accident that occurred Thursday afternoon in Key West.

Arielle Callender, a spokeswoman for the agency, told Local 10 News in an email that the boat – a 39-foot Deep Impact – was traveling in North Key West Harbor when it struck a sandbar and rolled, causing five the eight people on board were ejected.

She said the victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment, but one person died from their injuries.

No further details were released as the investigation is ongoing.
