1 person dead, 3 hospitalized after overdose incident at party in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) — One person died and three others were hospitalized after an apparent overdose at a party in Anaheim early Friday morning, authorities said.

According to Anaheim police, officers responded to a medical overdose call at approximately 1:09 a.m. in the 1500 block of East Benmore Lane

When officers arrived, they found four unconscious men in the courtyard of a residential building where a party with around 30 people was taking place.

The victims were not identified, but according to APD Sgt. Armando Pardo, all four victims are men between the ages of 21 and 41. All four victims were transported to three different hospitals. One man died, another is in critical condition and the other two are stable.

Officers discovered a white substance at the scene. A hazmat team responded to the scene and evacuated the area to examine the substance.

“There was a white, powdery substance at the location where the four victims were. Therefore, this caused the Anaheim Fire Department to classify the area as a potentially hazardous situation,” said Sgt. Pardo.

After three hours, residents were allowed back into their homes.

The white substance was later identified as fentanyl.

“Fentanyl is extremely dangerous to both our first responders and our community. Once the area was contained, it was treated as a hazmat situation to avoid possible exposure to other individuals,” Sergeant said. Sorry.

The victim’s cause of death was not disclosed.

With the holidays approaching and more gatherings expected, police are reminding communities to stay away from drug use.

“Do not take anything or any substance that you have no idea what it is or what it is about, or even if a friend brings it and you have no idea what is in it, do not take it,” said Sgt. Pardo.
