1 was arrested after high-speed stolen car chase ended in accident

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – One person is in custody following a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Essex Junction this evening.

According to police, a Colchester police officer spotted a car reported stolen near St. Michael’s College around 6:50 p.m. Thursday.

The officer turned on the blue lights and the car began to turn to avoid stopping. At that point, police say a chase began, reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.

The accident occurred when the car arrived at the Essex Junction shopping center on Pearl Street and attempted to turn into the parking lot, but struck another car that was also turning.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Shauna Francis of Burlington. Francis is now being held pending an adjudication of the criminal charges.

Two passengers who were also in the stolen vehicle were briefly detained by police and released.
