15-year-old boy drowns near Gulfstream Park in Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. – The 15-year-old boy who went missing after an open water incident at Gulfstream Park Sunday morning has been found dead, according to Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue.

Boynton Beach Fire Rescue (BBFR) received a call at 7:20 a.m. Sunday about two children in distress in the water near Gulfstream Park.

Upon arrival, one child had been safely rescued from the water by two Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue lifeguards, and a second child and his mother were still in the water. A BBFR captain and a BBFR firefighter entered the water to assist the Gulf Stream Police Department officer in rescuing the mother.

The body of the 15-year-old boy was found dead around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Boynton Beach police, the BBFR captain was injured during the rescue and was taken to a hospital in serious condition. He has now been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The joint response included Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue, Gulf Stream Police, Boynton Beach Police, Boynton Beach Fire Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
