2 dead identified in shooting near UL campus | Crime/Police

Lafayette police have identified the two people killed and two others injured in a shooting Saturday across from the University of Louisiana Lafayette campus after the homecoming football game.

Police responded to the shooting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday outside 405 E. University Ave. at a popular fried chicken restaurant called KOK Wings and Things. Corey Mouton, 26, of Carencro, and Jamir Carmouche, 24, of Lafayette, were killed in the shooting, Lafayette police said Sunday.

Two other people were hit by gunfire and are in stable condition. One person appeared to have been the target and died at the scene. The others apparently were not targeted, police said.

Police did not say who the intended target was.

Further information was not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
