20-year-old killed, 2 teenagers injured in car accident in south Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A 20-year-old man was killed in a car accident Sunday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

CMPD said two juveniles were also injured in the car crash and were taken to a local hospital.

According to police, around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, they responded to a vehicle accident in the 6600 block of South Boulevard.

When they arrived at the scene of the accident, a Toyota Scion was in flames on the road. According to police, the two teenagers were outside the vehicle with injuries.

The driver of the Scion, Celeo Avalid Chirino, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers stated during their preliminary investigation that this indicated the Scion was on South Blvd. drove south. when he was unable to maintain his lane and struck a raised median, causing severe damage to the undercarriage.

As the Scion came to rest, it burst into flames.

CMPD says they believe excessive speed and alcohol impairment are suspected factors.
