4 famous music videos that definitely haven’t aged well

So many music videos from pop music’s past are still enjoyable today. However, this is definitely the case with some music videos from the 2010s not aged well. Whether their subject matter was questionable or the overall quality of the music video was lacking, these four music videos haven’t exactly aged well over the years. Let’s take a look!

1. “Dancing In The Street” by David Bowie and Mick Jagger

This particular music video from 1985 isn’t exactly that controversial. In fact, it was a pretty big success; the song reached No. 7 in the US and No. 1 in the UK at the time. However, some would call this music video a bit embarrassing. The fashion choices were a bit odd, Mick Jagger’s lip sync attempt wasn’t exactly stellar, and the dance moves were understated, hilarious, and unexpected. Don’t shoot the messenger! At least it was one brave dare.

2. “Criminal” by Britney Spears

Britney Spears has caused some controversy with her music videos over the years. Her debut single “…Baby One More Time” hasn’t aged well either. However, 2011’s “Criminal” caused quite a stir. From the depiction of domestic violence to the glorification of firearms to the blatant misogyny throughout the music video, one can’t help but wonder who made this music video possible.

3. “Lap Dance” by NERD

Pharrell Williams is no stranger to music videos that haven’t aged well. “Blurred Lines” comes to mind almost immediately. The music video for “Lapdance” by Williams’ band NERD was also a controversial undertaking. In a way, we understand what they were trying to say: you can’t trust politicians. But using sex workers as a metaphor for the meaningless words of political figures was tasteless and downright objectifying.

4. “Do What U Want” by Lady Gaga

Whatever the case, Lady Gaga has since said that she regrets collaborating with disgraced former record producer R. Kelly on this particular song. From what we could find, this music video only exists through re-uploads on YouTube. But man, was that one rough Work. The glorification of sexual assault and objectification of women was in very poor taste, and we understand why Gaga has since called the video “absolutely horrific.”
