A Colorado state trooper helping a motorist escaped from the patrol car after an accident near Boulder

A Colorado state trooper assisting a motorist was sitting in his patrol car when he was hit by another car Wednesday morning.

A Colorado State Patrol spokesman said the trooper, who was not immediately identified, was uninjured but was trapped in his patrol car and needed to be freed.

The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. on US Highway 36 at Foothills Parkway. The eastbound lanes are closed at Table Mesa and detours are in place.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether snow played a role in the initial call or the crash, but about 4 inches of snow was forecast for Boulder on Wednesday.
