A Florida father shoots a neighbor who tried to run him over and chases his son during a road rage incident

An armed father in Florida shot and killed a neighbor who allegedly followed his son and a friend home and tried to run the man over in a heated traffic argument.

Marcus Blicker, 47, was accused of following the shooter’s 16-year-old son and the teen’s boyfriend as the couple drove past his home in Port Orange – a suburb of Daytona Beach – on Oct. 26, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Blicker quickly left his home, followed the children and “erratically” swerved to avoid the two vehicles they were driving, police said.

The son called his father to tell him that Blicker was following him.

Blicker chased the teen to the teen’s driveway and threatened the two drivers before the armed father confronted him with a rifle around 7:40 p.m., police said.

Blicker followed the shooter’s teenage son onto the lawn and threatened him, police said.

The father fired warning shots into the air and asked Blicker to leave his property.

“One thing I knew: My son was eight feet behind me and this guy couldn’t get to her,” the father, who did not wish to be identified, told Fox35 Orlando.

The footage shows Blicker’s truck briefly backing away from the property, but then speeding toward the father and another person who was standing nearby, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement.

“I had no idea who I was shooting at. All I knew was my son was screaming, ‘Dad, someone is trying to kill me,'” the shooter said.

The father fired several shots at Blicker as the truck drove toward them, but it eventually stopped in the front yard.

Blicker was pronounced dead in the front yard.

A Rottweiler in Blicker’s pickup truck was injured in the incident, but officials said the dog is expected to recover.

Police did not disclose what led Blicker to follow the teens as they drove past his home.

No criminal charges were filed against the father in the days following the shooting.

According to the Jacksonville-based law firm Hussein & Webber, Florida is a “Stand Your Ground” state, meaning self-defense is a type of affirmative defense designed to avoid the legal repercussions of an otherwise unlawful act of violence in Florida.

The company contends that in Florida a person is justified in using deadly force “to prevent imminent death or serious bodily harm to himself or others” or when a person is resisting any attempt to murder that person or a crime against them to commit or on or in a residential building in which the person is located.”

“He would never, ever have gone there with the intention of making what happened happen or being a part of it,” an unnamed family member told Fox35 Orlando.

The shooter told the local news station that the incident left him sleepless and he wished there had been a way to speak out against the violence.

“I feel so sorry for his family, my family, everyone’s family. Nobody wanted that,” the shooter said.

An investigation is ongoing, but the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the gunman’s and witnesses’ statements are consistent with video and audio recordings.
