(CBS DETROIT) – A poll worker was hospitalized after he was involved in a car accident while casting ballots in Detroit on Tuesday night.

According to Detroit police, the accident occurred in the area of ​​W. Grand Boulevard and Linwood Street. The worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they waited at the scene for poll workers to pick up the ballots.

Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey says the ballots were retrieved and were in a locked transfer case. Data stored on a memory card was also retrieved and sent to the Department of Elections.

Police released no further information at this time.
