Aaron Glenn talks rain-soaked glasses and how the Lions will use Za’Darius Smith

During the Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was absolutely on edge. How do we know this? Well, the fact that he didn’t wipe his rain-soaked glasses is evidence of that.

As both teams battled the weather, Glenn was seen on the sidelines with his glasses completely covered in raindrops. Anyone who wears glasses like yours truly knows how annoying this can be, but the Lions’ defensive coordinator didn’t mind.

And as expected, the internet had a field day with Glenn’s glasses, resulting in some hilarious memes. He said he was fully aware of the attention his glasses were attracting.

“This thing is really getting out of hand,” Glenn said, according to Richard Silva of The Detroit News. “I had no idea, I really didn’t know. I was just focused on playing the best game I can.”

Just before the trade deadline on Tuesday, the Lions made a massive upgrade to their defense with general manager Brad Holmes acquiring veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

While Smith is best known for his ability to push the passer over the edge, Glenn revealed that the Lions could also easily kick him inside on third downs.

“Really happy to have Za’Darius…he’ll be back with us on Friday and we’ll see exactly how it goes…but I’m really excited to have this player,” Glenn said, according to Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News.

As for Smith’s prospects of playing this week, Glenn wouldn’t commit to one side or the other.

Smith will join the team on Friday as the Lions will give him a few days of rest since he will not have a bye week after being traded from the Browns during the bye week. Of course, the Lions already had theirs.

But if Smith can hold his own on Sunday and manage to play the remaining games this season, he would become just the second player since 1930 to play 18 games in a regular season, and the first for the Lions.
