According to sources, Trump sees Marco Rubio as secretary of state

Donald Trump plans to nominate US Senator Marco Rubio as Foreign MinisterThe Florida-born politician will become the first Latino to serve as America’s chief diplomat when the Republican president-elect takes office in January.
Historically, Rubio was considered the most forceful candidate on Trump’s shortlist for secretary of state, having previously championed strong foreign policy approaches to countries such as China, Iran and Cuba.
In recent years, he has adjusted his positions to better align with Trump’s perspectives. The president-elect criticizes previous US administrations for engaging in costly wars and argues for a more limited approach to foreign policy.
Sources who spoke anonymously about private discussions said that while Trump is known for last-minute changes, he appeared to have made his decision as early as Monday.
The new government faces major global challenges, with ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East as China strengthens its ties with Russia and Iran.
Ukraine will be a priority issue for Rubio. The 53-year-old senator recently suggested that Ukraine should seek diplomatic solutions with Russia instead of focusing on restoring the territory. He was among 15 Republican senators who opposed a $95 billion military aid package for Ukraine in April.
“I’m not on Russia’s side – but unfortunately the reality is that the war in Ukraine will end with a negotiated settlement,” Rubio told NBC in September.
The selection has both international and national significance. Trump’s victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on November 5 was partly attributed to a surge Latino supporta population group that exhibits increasing political diversity as political diversity increases Republican voters.
When it comes to China, Rubio has a clear stance. In 2019, he initiated a national security review of TikTok’s acquisition of Musical.ly. As the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, he continues to push for restrictions on Huawei.
His from Cuban descentWhen his grandfather left Cuba in 1962, Rubio strongly opposed normalizing relations with the Cuban government and aligned himself with Trump’s position. He also frequently criticizes the Venezuelan Maduro government in its role in overseeing Latin American affairs.
