According to the affidavit, witnesses helped police locate the suspect in the shooting at the singer’s stage in Dallas

Witnesses helped direct police to a hotel lobby, where they found and arrested the woman accused of shooting a singer on stage in downtown Dallas minutes earlier, according to an affidavit filed by was obtained The Dallas Morning News.

Micah Williams, 26, faces aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge after police say she shot 26-year-old Jada Thomas in the chest. According to police, Thomas was in stable condition following surgery.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a shooting call at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas on South Griffin Street and saw a man waving his arms and screaming.

The man pointed to a hotel in the 200 block of North Akard Street and told officers the shooter was inside, police wrote in the affidavit. The report calls the hotel the Thomas Hotel but gives the address of the Thompson Dallas.

When officers entered the hotel with guns drawn and shouted for Williams to come to them, she stood up, grabbed her purse and turned to walk away, police said.

Officers managed to walk up to her and arrest her when she attempted to sit on her purse, which contained a handgun, according to the affidavit.

A witness told police, according to the warrant, that Williams was standing next to her in line waiting for an autograph from Thomas when she heard the gun go off, turned around and saw Williams holding the gun pointed at Thomas.

A second witness described an interaction with Williams earlier in the night in which she seemed “really robotic and unconventional,” according to the affidavit.

Other witnesses in the theater told officers they heard a single gunshot and then saw Williams leaving the building.

Police wrote in the report that Williams said she shot Thomas and told investigators that Thomas “harassed her throughout 2023.” The affidavit does not elaborate on the relationship between the victim and the suspect.

Police also did not provide any information in the affidavit as to what might have led to the shooting.

Williams remained in custody at the Dallas County Jail Tuesday night on $200,000 bail, records show.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters released a statement Tuesday evening from Thomas’ parents, who said their daughter was “making very good progress.”

“She was shot while greeting her fans and kindly signing the performance program at the end of the 3 p.m. matinee show,” the statement said. “While we are incredibly grateful for every call, email and desire to visit Jada, we ask that you continue to pray for her and our family and to give our daughter some time and space to continue her healing can!”

Curtis King, founder and president of the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, announced on the day of the shooting that the organization would immediately increase its security.

In a separate statement Sunday, King urged the community to continue praying for Thomas and her family.

“Pray for all of us who have been and will continue to be blessed by Jada’s music and ministry…so stand by…there is more work to be done from Jada [Thomas]“, he wrote. “She is brave, strong, resilient and a devout child of God!”
