Albany Police made an arrest in connection with an assault incident that left one officer injured

Albany police say they have arrested 41-year-old James Farmer of Albany and charged him in connection with an assault Friday afternoon.

The attack occurred in the area of ​​Jay and Quail streets around 4:30 p.m

Officers said they observed a fight between Farmer and another man, and Farmer hit the man in the head with a glass bottle and punched him in the back of the head several times. The victim and the farmer were known to each other, police said.

They say the 50-year-old male victim suffered pain and swelling to the back of his head.

When officers tried to intervene and arrest Farmer, he ignored their commands, police said.

Albany police add that Farmer actively resisted arrest during the incident, resulting in an officer sustaining a hand injury.

Officers arrested Farmer and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

According to police, Farmer is accused of:

  • Second degree assault
  • Obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Disorderly behavior
  • Resisting arrest

Farmer was arraigned Saturday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and transported back to the Albany County Jail.
