Alvin Kamara overtakes Mark Ingram to become the New Orleans Saints’ all-time leading rusher

“At the end of the day, if you set a record, there’s going to be someone coming behind you and shooting for it,” Ingram said. “I’m just glad it’s my family, it’s my brother.

“We have been close since day one, we are still close today. I’ve talked to him all season, I talked to him (Thursday) night. We just continue to have a close relationship. Obviously I did.” I’m proud of him. He’s set every other franchise record, so it’s time for him to master the rushing yards too.

“Special time, special time. It’s special for him, he should be proud of himself. We are all proud of him. He will likely ensure that record falls out of reach. He’s going to break this record, and he’s going to put it out of reach.

Kamara was the 2017 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and is a two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler who set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns in a game when he scored six total touchdowns against Minnesota on Christmas Day 2020.

Kamara, a 2017 third-round draft choice out of Tennessee, has led the Saints in rushing yards in every year of his career except 2018.

“We always knew he was extremely talented, we always knew he had a great football IQ,” Ingram said. “You never really know what to expect from someone, but I knew he definitely had the talent to do it.”

“Over time, his ability as a player has evolved from a guy who comes out of the backfield and designs runs designed to score big, to a strong running style, creating tough yards inside, acquiring pass protection and just just…” completely back.

“I think it’s a testament to his work ethic, his mindset and the way he prepares. Because you really can’t – you can’t run that many yards, you can’t play that many games -” without having a plan, without having a routine and being able to stick to those things Be consistent with these things, stay true to yourself, keep improving, don’t be complacent.

“This is crucial to him being able to continue the career he has had and he will continue it.”
