An early morning accident in Shrewsbury has claimed one life

SHREWSBURY — A single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning left one person dead, Vermont State Police said.

The accident occurred around 4:06 a.m. Nov. 10 on Cold River Road near Upper Cold River Road.

The driver, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was traveling southbound when his 2019 RAM 1500 pickup truck crossed the center line, left the roadway and collided head-on with a tree after striking a guardrail.

The vehicle was totaled and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

State troopers from Rutland Barracks were on scene along with the Shrewsbury Fire Department, Rutland City Fire Department and Regional Emergency Medical Services.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
