An obscure Disney game has become a top seller after a very scary discovery

What is currently the best-selling game on eBay in the US? Probably something new, right? Perhaps The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom or the excellent Silent Hill 2 remake. The answer is actually much stranger – it’s Piglet’s Big Game for PS2 and GameCube.

Anyone who just logs onto eBay in the US and starts a search for the PS2 or GameCube version of the Disney game Piglet’s Big Game will find that there are essentially no listings for the game. That’s a bit strange, isn’t it? It’s not like it’s a particularly rare game and there were plenty of copies made. But after netizens noticed something strange about the game, it became an overnight sensation and dozens decided they had to see it for themselves.

The furor surrounding this 20-year-old licensed game, loosely based on the 2003 film Piglet’s Big Movie, began on Friday, when Twitter user Jaxonloid posted a screen capture of a YouTube clip of a music track from the game. Titled Foreboding 1, the title has some real Silent Hill vibes and channels the strange ambient music that could be found in most horror games of the time.

Another Twitter user, EX Falchion, posted a clip of the gameplay itself, showing that the spooky atmosphere goes beyond the soundtrack. The clip, just 24 seconds long, shows Piglet running through a seemingly abandoned mansion while the aforementioned ambient music plays in the background. For an E rated game, it’s certainly a lot scarier than you’d expect. It’s strangely reminiscent of Resident Evil and definitely not something I’d want to experience anytime soon.

And luckily I couldn’t even if I wanted to. Before the game blew up on Twitter, there were dozens of offers for the game on eBay, most of which were pretty low – usually around $20 or so. Now there’s nothing left to see. A look at recently completed listings on eBay shows that over 60 copies have been sold in the last four days, a huge increase compared to the game’s sales prior to the tweet, where between zero and two copies were sold every week or two.

So is Piglet’s Big Game the next big thing? Can we expect an HD remaster soon? Probably not. But hey, it just goes to show that there are still some hidden gems in gaming’s past just waiting to be rediscovered. Even if these hidden treasures are strange, horror-adjacent Disney games.
