AP Top 25 college basketball rankings poll released after Week 1

The latest college basketball rankings are here as the 2024-25 AP Poll Top 25 have been updated after Week 1 of the season.

There’s not much to say after the first few games, but there were some results that stood out. But we’ll let the season continue before we make any predictions for March!

Let’s take a look at the latest AP Poll top 25 rankings after Week 1 of the season.

Kansas started the season 2-0 and defeated UNC on Friday. If you get a top 10 win to start the season, you’re not going anywhere.

Hunter Dickinson had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in the win. Zeke Mayo added 21 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Alabama also started the season 2-0, but struggled against Arkansas State. But they pulled away in the second half.

In their first competition, it was like a warm-up game. The Crimson Tide dominated UNC Asheville 110-54. Nate Oats’ team should be in title contention all year long.

UConn got off to a flying start with two wins over Sacred Heart and New Hampshire. There has been no exit since last year’s national team championship.

A new look lineup? No problem. In fact, UConn won its games back-to-back, 92-56 and 92-53. Yes, they are pretty good.

Gonzaga started the season 2-0, which included a top-10 win over Baylor to open the season. Granted, the Bulldogs had to hold on against Arizona State, but the Gonzaga win stands out.

In this victory, a 101-63 victory over the Bears, it was all “Zags.” It was a balanced attack led by Nolan Hickman, who had 17 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Auburn won its first game against Vermont 94-43 to secure a victory. But it was the second game that caused a stir.

An early season game against Houston? No problem, the Tigers just went out and upset the Cougars. Aside from the plane incident, they got the win and Tahaad Pettiford had 21 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Duke got off to a 2-0 start with home wins over Maine and Army. They will compete on Kentucky Tuesday, which will be must-see television for all first-season college basketball players.

This is a young group, but the incoming veterans should help them settle in soon. In the most recent win, freshman Cooper Flagg had 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Iowa State has played one game so far, but it was a dominant win over Mississippi Valley State. As they build the non-conference roster, the Cyclones should become one of the Big 12’s best teams.

They get big games against Auburn and Marquette later this month, which should be a good benchmark as Christmas approaches. They are back in action Monday night against Kansas City.

Houston lost to Auburn, which stands out in the early schedule. It’s not the biggest deal in the world since the Cougars lost a ranked game. It’s too early!

They opened the season with a 97-40 victory over Jackson State. Houston will be back in action on Wednesday against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Arizona is off to a 2-0 start to the season with two dominant non-conference wins. “Nothing said about the Wildcats, right?”

But the schedule picks up pace this week with a road game against Wisconsin. The Wildcats then have a date with Duke next week before the calendar turns to December.

UNC is just 1-1 to start the season, but please, Tar Heel fans, don’t panic! North Carolina beat Elon 90-76 to open the year before losing to Kansas.

Kansas is, after all, the No. 1 team in the country. We’ll see how the non-conference plays out in the coming weeks, including a December matchup with No. 2 Alabama.
