Apparent break-in at a Vero Beach Highlands home leads to murder

VERO BEACH — Someone was killed in an apparent home invasion in suburban Vero Beach early Sunday, and Indian River County sheriff’s officials are asking for the public’s help in solving the case.

In a Facebook post from the crime scene in Vero Beach Highlands this morning, Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers said there had been a murder at a home earlier Sunday, but added that he could provide few details .

“It’s a heinous crime, there’s no doubt about it,” Flowers said.

A 911 call came into the sheriff’s office at 3:47 a.m., Flowers said, and the department has been on the scene since then. The home in question is located in the 600 block of 23approx Place Southwest, he said.

“I can tell you this is a residence that we are very familiar with,” he said. “It’s one we’ve been to many times this year. We know a few residents who are staying in the house.”

Flowers appealed to the public for help.

“If there is anyone who knows the apartment in question, knows the people who are there and if anyone knows what happened overnight, we are looking for further investigative leads,” he said.

Flowers asked if anyone had caught anything on a Ring doorbell or other security camera, or if they had seen anything while driving through the neighborhood.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Crawford at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office at 772-569-6700 or submit an anonymous tip to Treasure Coast CrimeStoppers at 800-273-8477 or www.tcwatch.org.
