“Arcane” Season 2: Hailee Steinfeld on Vi and Jinx Sisterhood and Feud

This article contains details about important characters or plot.

At the end of Arcana In the first season, Jinx (Ella Purnell) isn’t dead per se, but Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) still mourns her sister.

That’s because any hope that the old Powder (Mia Sinclair Jenness) still exists was ultimately dashed with Jinx’s brutal attack on the Council ARKANE’S first season. After killing her father figure Silco (Jason Spisak), Jinx fires a massive missile at Piltover’s governing body just as they finalize a vote on peace with the sister city of Zaun.

In the second season of the critically acclaimed animated series, premiering with the first act on November 9th – followed by the second act on November 16th and the third act on November 23rd – Vi must come to terms with Jinx’s destructive actions, which drives both cities to flee war.

“Vi is really struggling with the loss of her sister,” Steinfeld tells Tudum. “[She’s] She also realizes that she now has a responsibility to take care of what she believes she created.”

It’s a problem that Vi can’t easily extricate herself from, although she would very much like to try. A sneak peek released during Geeked Week 2024 showed the normally pink-haired vigilante sporting black locks and smudgy makeup as she took out her frustrations in the fighting pit.

“One of the first images of Vi this season that really caught my eye was her in the ring,” says Steinfeld. “She went through that, and one thing I love about this show and the animation is that they don’t shy away from the reality of what these characters would look like if they had gone through what they went through.”

The image of Vi bruised and beaten and “tired and a shell of herself – it touched me so much,” the actor says. “She is so human in this show and the animation is so real and raw that you feel connected to these characters.”

As Vi struggles with the realization that Powder could be lost forever, “there are a lot of ups and downs. There’s a lot of heartache, there’s a lot of loss, there’s a lot of tragedy,” Steinfeld says. “But there’s a lot of passion and love in it, and it’s a very emotional season.”

The bright side is that Vi doesn’t have to deal with all of this alone. She teams up again with Caitlyn (Katie Leung), an enforcer from Piltover, who supports her.

“Their relationship is so beautiful and so complex,” Steinfeld notes, adding that there is a lot of back and forth between the two characters. “One moment they might stand for the same thing and agree, and then there’s a conflict.” Vi leans in, though [Caitlyn] He has a lot of trust in her and almost submits to her, and they make a great team.”

Act One of Arcana The second season premieres on Netflix on November 9th, followed by act two on November 16th and act three on November 23rd.
