Arnold Schwarzenegger partners with Zimmer Biomet to advance medical technology mission

Zimmer Biomet has hired former California governor, action movie star and bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger as chief movement officer.

The medical technology company said that in this newly created strategic role, Schwarzenegger will work with Zimmer Biomet to encourage people to increase their mobility, prioritize joint health and incorporate exercise into their daily routines.

In a post on his Instagram account, Schwarzenegger said he is eager to join Zimmer Biomet in this unique role and use his influential role in the world of fitness to support the company’s mission.

“I knew that combining my expertise in strength and fitness and my passion for promoting healthy lifestyles with this team would create something truly powerful,” he said. “Together we will inspire people to develop healthy habits, maintain mobility through exercise and take an active role in their wellbeing.”

While many may know Schwarzenegger from his success as a Hollywood star or his time as a two-term politician, he began his career in the world of bodybuilding.

His starring role in the 1977 documentary Pump iron gave him international recognition and underscored his ongoing commitment to fitness. Even in his 70s, Schwarzenegger continues to train, is the author of fitness books and a daily newsletter, and hosts the Arnold Sports Festival.

“Arnold’s bold approach to personal health, innovation and advancement reflects Zimmer Biomet’s vision to be the boldest company in medical technology by solving today’s most significant healthcare problems,” said Ivan Tornos, CEO of Zimmer Biomet , in a statement. “As people age, they strive to lead healthier and more active lifestyles and the demand for pain-free exercise increases. Innovative solutions like ours make it easier to achieve this goal. I can’t think of a better partner than Arnold to join us as Chief Movement Officer and help advance our shared mission to relieve pain and improve the quality of life for people around the world. Together we will do amazing things for patients, surgeons and communities.”

The Schwarzenegger partnership was announced just over two weeks after the release of the company’s latest earnings report, which was highlighted by a robust third-quarter performance, including net sales of $1.8 billion – up 4% in the quarter Year-on-year comparison.
