ATP Tour Finals: Jannik Sinner beats Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev beats Alex de Minaur

Russia’s Medvedev, who had been booed for his antics against Fritz, stuck his fingers in his ears after sealing victory against De Minaur.

He dropped just nine points on his serve and secured victory in one hour and 18 minutes.

“I went into this game blocking out the noise, even from myself,” said 28-year-old 2020 champion Medvedev.

“I really didn’t care what was happening on the court, I just tried to play and it felt good.”

Medvedev’s temper was tested after his dour behavior 48 hours earlier, but he hit the ball superbly and broke open with a cross-court winner in the third game.

When De Minaur double-faulted, he earned a double break and took the first set after 40 minutes.

The 25-year-old De Minaur struggled in a thrilling second set but Medvedev’s stunning backhand put him 5-4 ahead and he held serve to secure victory.

In doubles, Patten and Heliovaara defeated Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson 7:6 (7:3), 7:5 and thus reached their Wimbledon final again.

The British-Finnish duo are aiming to become the first team since Mike Bryan and Jack Sock in 2018 to win the Wimbledon and ATP Finals trophies in the same season.
