Aurora man killed in Geneva car crash

A 31-year-old Aurora man was killed in a car crash in Geneva early Sunday, authorities said.

According to Geneva police, shortly before 5 a.m. Carlos Diaz Jr. was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado west on Fabyan Parkway when it veered across the eastbound lanes and in front of the base of the Fox River bridge nearby Route 25 left the roadway.

Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was located on the south side of the bridge embankment by Geneva and Batavia police officers and members of the Batavia Fire Department, officials said.

The Fabyan Parkway bridge was closed while Geneva police, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Coroner’s Office investigated. The road was reopened at 9 a.m

The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy, police said.
