Australia’s ODI side is being criticized for a “lack of intensity” after being “outplayed” by Pakistan following a disappointing series defeat

The Australian ODI team was thrashed after being “outplayed” by Pakistan on Sunday afternoon.

The tourists claimed a comfortable eight-wicket win as well as their first series win against the Aussies in Australia in 22 years.

Josh Inglis took over the lead from Pat Cummins, who was not present for the game, but his side collapsed under the bowling deluge of Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, who both took three wickets each.

In the absence of key stars Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Starc and Cummins, Australia failed to impress with the bat, posting a first innings score of 140-9.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, Inglis and Glenn Maxwell all failed to reach double figures, while Cooper Connolly had to be taken off injured after taking a hit on the hand from Mohammad Hasnain.

Australia largely failed to live up to their potential during the three-match series, with captain Pat Cummins claiming a win in the first ODI before Haris Rauf ripped through Australia’s batting order to inspire Pakistan to victory in the second game.

“Quite a disappointing performance,” stand-in captain Inglis said after Sunday’s defeat.

“I think after the first three quarters of the game (the series) we were completely outmatched. “There weren’t enough runs on the board in games two and three.”

He added: “It’s up to us to get through tough times. “Really cool experience captaining Australia but quite a disappointing series.”

“Pakistan was absolutely fantastic but I can’t remember watching a series where Australia lacked so much intensity,” he wrote on X.

“I’m afraid bilateral series are on the decline.”

On Fox Cricket’s post-match analysis of the game, Vaughan said: “Let’s be honest, I can’t remember seeing an Australian batting line-up so exposed.”

“Three games on the trot against a little bit of pace, a little bit of movement, they were completely exposed.”

Journalist Daniel Cherny also declared: “This is brain-dead cricket.”

He was followed by former England star Kevin Pietersen, who praised Pakistan after their excellent win.

“Pakistan WINS in Australia,” said the former England batsman.

“That’s why they MUST remove all the negative ‘noise’ and help talent showcase their skills.”

“Put politics aside and let the cricket do the talking!”

Other fans praised Pakistan for their performances in Australia.

To date, they had not won a series in Australia since 2002.

“Aussie Aussie Aussie… Moye Moye Moye #PAKvsAUS,” Mohamed Hafeez said on Twitter.

Former Pakistan coach Wasim Akram added: Congratulations Team Pakistan…beating the ODI world champions in series is a big achievement.

“Having experienced and commented on this series, I feel honored.

“This win will give great confidence to the players, new captain Rizwan, the cricket board and most importantly the fans.” “It will improve Pakistan’s cricketing image tremendously.”

Despite its ODI woes, Australia still has some time to redeem itself. Pat Cummins’ side will now face Pakistan in a three-match T20I series before facing India at the end of the month.
