Bengals Week 10 Post Game Quotes

ZAC TAYLOR

Head coach

On his thought process calling the two point conversion: “We came here to win. [We came] here to win.

On the performance in the second half: “We lost the turnover battle 1-0. I think that was great, you know, it was 21-7 at that point when we gave them seven points right off the fumble, they had the big play, and then it kind of went back and forth from there . [The Ravens] We’re just a good football team, but we expected to come here and win. We did everything we could to make this happen. [The loss] doesn’t change the fact that I’m proud. I think everyone on the field fought [and] gave us a chance. We are also on the way to becoming a good team and it is shocking that this has happened to us twice. This is it.”

On HB Chase Brown’s fumble: “Every time you play [the Ravens]it’s a one-score game. Whoever wins the turnover battle wins the game. That was what mattered.

Why the team seems to struggle in big moments: “We have to find out. We have to find a way to finish these games. We had our chance The team will continue to put us in a good position, there will come a point in the season when that changes. We will react to this game in the right way. We have a one-game season against the Chargers next week bye. We will get our bodies in order and prepare to fight them.

Why the team doesn’t finish: “Finally, I would like to say that there were a lot of great moves from both teams at the end of the game. I know that’s the easy answer, but we just have to find a way to make that last play win.”

On the decision to throw deep balls on 3rd and 2 and 4 and 2: “It was just part of the plan. That’s progress and if you can get a one-on-one shot, we do that all the time. Otherwise there is progress that comes across. “We did a lot” plays out in those situations where we take these shots, just because it’s 3rd and 2 or 4th and 2, they drop everyone underneath and try to take away the stuff underneath, So you either shoot or you wait for other things to be sorted out.

On WR Tylan Wallace’s three missed tackles on a touchdown: “I can’t see that well. This is the furthest point of the field that I can see. We’ll watch the tape and evaluate how the game went.”

How their defensive game changed in the second half: “The loss of the ball gave them great field position because we had a three-pointer there at the start of the half. I was really happy with the way the defense started the half. Then of course that big play on third-and-2. “That was a lot of yards, that gave them some hope and they responded correctly. From then on it just became back and forth.

On WR Ja’Marr Chase: “Incredible. That’s a good defense. They have a lot of talent there. I thought, Ja’Marr.” [Chase] Whenever we could find a way to get him the ball, we improved tremendously, [and] I thought [Joe Burrow] did great. Ja’Marr completed all of these pieces for us. I thought [Chase and Burrow] played excellently.”

On his frustration at not winning: “It’s frustrating because of the work we put into it. We sit up here every week and put our heart and soul into this. We have a good football team. Our balance sheet does not yet show this. There is still time. This.” The team will persevere in the end. That’s a difficult thing because that’s where you are, and it felt like that [you] Let this go down somehow. But at the same time I still believe in these guys. They believe in each other. There is still a lot of football to be played.”

On his decision to take a timeout on the first two-point conversion attempt: “We were just trying to get a free meter there. So it was a no-snaps-and-plays situation.” [We were] I’m trying to get a free game. If they jump, grab it and get a clear shot on the two-point conversion. We didn’t have a chance to do that, so we took a timeout and then made the play we liked, but it just didn’t work out for us.”

If there was a play for their second two-point attempt: “I have to look at it. It’s hard for me to say at the moment.”

On the question of whether the two-point attempt was intended for WR Ja’Marr Chase: “There is always progress. Most of our stuff is geared toward going to Ja’Marr Chase. Progress begins again, and he was in that progress. I would say.” [Joe Burrow] makes pretty good decisions. I’m assuming we went there, but we’ll have to watch the tapes to see what happened.

On the decision not to attempt long field goals with K Evan McPherson: “This direction was less [of the number]. So I think we gave up a 58-yard field goal even though our defense had already given up seven points at that point in the game. So we held them there on the 10. Obviously it didn’t work. They scored three games later. That was that decision. It was an aggressive game for us, that’s it. You know, that was exactly it, considering how the game unfolded and how our defense played in that moment. A 58-yard field goal, just stick them there and try to get the ball back to the same field position and knock it in on offense.

If he predicted a game with 56 pass attempts from QB Joe Burrow: “It’s hard to say how many snaps you’re going to take, but yeah, I knew it was going to be that kind of game.”

On QB Joe Burrow, who took 13 QB hits tonight: “It’s a really talented defense. If you throw the ball that many times, it’s going to happen.” [Joe Burrow] does a great job of buying time until the end to give his guys a chance. It probably happened so often that some of those hits resulted in big results because he waited until the last second and was ready to take the hit. Unfortunately, that will have a negative impact on the offensive line, when in reality it’s just Joe holding out and making plays instead of giving and giving tight coverage [Ja’Marr Chase] and these guys have a chance to get that extra second.”

If you knew that the Bengals would score two goals if they scored on the final drive: “Yes. There’s a time situation where I can’t go into detail, but there’s a chance you might get a three-pointer, get the ball back when you were just tied, and then kick a play–” It didn’t feel like that , as if we were going to get the ball again.

When trying to figure out how to quit games: “You just have to find a way to win.”

On their aggressiveness during the game: “We came here to fight them. We fought against them and only came up one play short.”

MIKE HILTON

Cornerback

What the Bengals did differently on defense in the second half: “No, we didn’t do anything different. I think they made adjustments and we didn’t make plays when we needed to.”

On whether this is the most frustrating season he has ever been a part of: “Yeah, I mean, if you look at our losses. Other than that game against Philadelphia, it’s pretty much one possession games. It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing we can do about it other than just prepare for next week.”

If there’s anything he remembers from the Ravens’ final touchdown drive: “No, we just have to play.”

What the defense was about on their last drive: “Complete. I mean, everyone knows we were in the game and had a chance to finish the game. We just didn’t do it and it came back to bite us. Yes, one of those tough defeats.”

About QB Lamar Jackson on the final drive: “Yeah, man, I mean, that’s what he’s done his whole career, just plays on the ground and through the air. We didn’t do enough tonight.”

LOGAN WILSON

Linebackers

On the feeling in the locker room after the game: “A game where we made enough plays to win, but we just didn’t come out victorious. That’s just the way these division games play, and that’s a credit to them.”

How the emotions of this game will impact the rest of the season: “We have a short week ahead of us, a little farewell. So we need to recover and refresh and find a way to get through this.” [Los Angeles] Chargers.”

If the loss shakes your confidence: “We still have a lot of work to do and we knew that. We’re just not ahead today. So we just have to learn from it and move on.”

If the Ravens made adjustments offensively in the second half: “I mean, they’re going to find ways to move the ball. They are one of the best, if not the best offense in the league. We knew that and we just didn’t make enough plays.”

On the frustration of almost beating the Ravens twice but losing twice: “Yeah, that’s how these things work. AFC North division rivals. You know that these will be difficult and hard-fought games and unfortunately we didn’t emerge victorious. So we just have to make it happen. “Keep it up.”
