Bengals’ Zac Taylor comments on Jermaine Burton’s future punishment

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor kept it short and sweet when discussing the punishment for rookie receiver Jermaine Burton following the team’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Taylor confirmed earlier reports that Burton was a key part of Sunday’s game plan before the rookie didn’t handle things well late in the week.

Taylor emphasized that no further punishment is expected for Burton and that he is still expected to do everything right and play a big role in the future: “We have to conduct our entire business in the right way.”

Taylor noted that Burton wants to help the team win and that they want to do everything they can to make sure he succeeds. But he also emphasized that it was “absolutely the right decision” to also make Burton inactive.

Previous reports said Burton missed Saturday’s pregame walkthrough despite being an important part of the game plan due to the absence of Tee Higgins. It was a stunning revelation considering how big a rookie opportunity there is in Joe Burrow’s offense, not to mention the long-term prospects if Higgins leaves as a free agent next summer.

For now, it’s likely that all fans will be excited about the team as Burton continues to try to overcome the red flags from the pre-draft process.
