Bill on euthanasia: This is about shortening death and not ending life, says the MP who is proposing a bill on euthanasia

Cancer patient says new law could stop ‘horrific’ deathspublished at 10:31 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time

“I’m dying of cancer – it’s currently affecting my liver, my lungs, my lymph nodes and recently my brain,” says Nathaniel Dye, sitting next to Kim Leadbeater.

He says he has learned of “some very positive experiences” around palliative care and the loss of loved ones.

In 2011, his fiancée died of cancer “with very little suffering,” as far as he knew.

He says his mother also died of cancer and he “kind of knows what’s coming” – and reflects on how palliative care has helped.

However, Dye says he’s hoping for the best but preparing for the worst – and the bill could perhaps “prevent the worst-case scenario of a terrible death.”

He says he is not afraid of dying, but thinks of his family and loved ones and says, “They will have to live with the manner of my death.”
