Blue State AGs Pledge to Fight New Trump Administration: “We Will Not Be Flattened”

Democratic attorneys general are announcing plans to “protect” against the new Trump administration following the former president’s election victory on Tuesday night.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a news conference Wednesday that she is preparing to “fight” a second Trump administration.

“My office has been preparing for several months because we have been here before, faced this challenge before and used the rule of law to fight it,” James said. “And we are ready to fight back again.”

As New York Attorney General James added, she will not shy away from the responsibility to protect the rights of New York residents and the “rule of law.”

“No matter what the next government throws at us, we are ready. We stand ready to respond to their attacks,” James said.

“Despite everything that has happened on the national stage, we will continue to stand firm in the face of injustice, revenge or retaliation,” she continued. “We will continue to protect the most vulnerable and marginalized among us.”

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a news conference Thursday that he will intervene if the Trump administration threatens the rights of Californians.

“You can rest assured that as California Attorney General, I will be there when Trump attacks your rights. When Trump comes after your freedoms, I will be there. If Trump threatens your safety and well-being, I will be there,” he said.

Bonta added that he would use his authority to “advocate for all people,” regardless of “politics.”

“I am here to ensure that every person, no matter what they look like, how much money they make, where they come from, who they love, how they identify, or how they pray, can achieve their version of the California dream,” said he.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown issued a press release Wednesday pledging to protect the well-being of Maryland communities, but stopped short of mentioning President-elect Trump by name.

“Upholding the rule of law in the service of justice for every Marylander remains my top priority,” he said. “The Attorney General’s Office will continue to use every tool at our disposal to ensure that Marylanders’ rights are protected, regardless of changes at the federal level.”

Early Wednesday, Trump called on all U.S. citizens to join him and “come together.”

“It’s time to put the divisions of the last four years behind us,” Trump said. “It’s time to unite. And we will try. We’ll try it. We have to try. And it will happen.”
