Boating accident in Key Largo leaves one person dead – NBC 6 South Florida

One person died and two others were injured in a boating accident in the Florida Keys on Saturday that involved air rescue and diving teams.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they received reports of the accident at the Card Sound Bridge near Pumpkin Key at 10:26 a.m.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said a 34-foot Nor-Tech with three people on board was heading south when a sudden turn ejected all three.

They were taken to a nearby hospital where one of them died.

The department said two of its helicopters had to rescue two people from the water and take them to a trauma center. Authorities described it as a “lift using a Stokes basket to rescue two patients for transport.”

“Divers were sent to the water to search for a third patient who was found,” the fire department said.

NBC6 is working to determine the cause of the accident.

This fatal accident on the waters of the Florida Keys comes after another incident Thursday in which a 28-year-old woman died after she was thrown from a boat during a powerboat race near Key West.
