Boxing results: Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis defeats Karen Chukhadzhian

In the main event, IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis won a hard-fought, unanimous 12-round decision over IBF No. 1 contender Karen Chukhadzhian in front of over 10,000 fans at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday night . Ennis scored a single knockdown in round five when Chukhadzhian suffered a knee.

In main support, WBC super flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez stopped WBC interim super flyweight champion Pedro Guevara in three rounds.

Ennis (33-0, 29) defeated Chukhadzhian (24-3, 13 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision. Southpaw Ennis controlled most of the first round until Chukhadzhian landed a right punch to the side of the head in the final minute that overwhelmed Ennis. In the second to fourth rounds, the fights took place exclusively indoors, with little action and an even fight.

In the fifth round, Ennis landed a right uppercut to the chin in the final minute, dropping Chukhadzhian for an 8 count from referee Harvey Dock. Ennis was warned several times in the sixth round for low blows.

In the seventh round, Ennis was warned a second time by referee Dock for a low blow. Both had their moments for the rest of the round. Chukhadzhian landed his best punch of the fight, landing on Ennis’ chin halfway through the round. In the final minute, Ennis got the better of Chukhadzhian and landed the final punch of the round, but could have potentially lost the round.

In the ninth round, Chukhadzhian ran, unlike the first fight, but fought and showed a decent chin, aside from an earlier knockdown. Between rounds, trainer Bozy Ennis again showed his frustration with Boots not finishing the fight.

Referee Dock took a point away from Chukhadzhian for holding steady in the tenth round. As the round continued, Chukhadzhian fought again and Ennis prevailed.

In the eleventh round, Chukhadzhian came out as good as he ever had in the fight and made it a fight. Both had their moments in the twelfth and final lap. Ennis won the fight, but not like his usual previous appearances, apart from the lone knockdown.

The results were 119-107, 117-109 and 116-110.

WBC Super Fly world champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, 21-0 (14), stopped WBC interim Super Fly champion Pedro Guevara (42-5-1, 21 KOs) at 2:47 of the third round in a planned 12 rounds.

Rodriguez tried to land the big punch in the first two rounds, but Guevara was busy enough to prevent that.

In the final minute of the third round, Rodriguez dropped Guevara with a left punch to the chin, earning an 8 count from referee Ricky Gonzalez. Seconds later, Guevara hit a right uppercut from Rodriguez to the chin and downward without referee Gonzalez counting it.

Former WBA World Feather and current WBA Continental Americas Feather Champion, southpaw Raymond “Savage” Ford (16-1-1, 8 KOs), defeated southpaw Orlando “Capu” Gonzalez (23-3, 13 KOs over ten rounds) for the vacant WBA Continental super featherweight title.

Points 99-89, 100-88 and 100-88.

On the first lap, Ford had a lead over Gonzalez. In the second round, a right hook from Ford knocked Gonzalez under the ropes and earned an 8 count from referee Shawn Clark. He somehow managed to survive the rest of the round.

Little happened from the third to the fifth round. In the sixth round, Ford came out, landing some hard punches through Gonzalez’s gloves and a right hand landed.

In the seventh round, seconds before the end, Ford landed a right hook from Ford to the chin and Gonzalez landed to the floor to receive an 8 count from referee Clark. Gonzalez was chased around the ring in the ninth and tenth rounds, just trying to reach the final bell.

WBC-USA light heavyweight world champion Khalil “Big Steppa” Coe (9-1-1, 7 KOs) was defeated on the 7th of the ninth of a scheduled ten rounds by Manuel “El Meno” Gallegos (21-2-1, 18 KOs) stopped rounds.

In the final minute of the first round, Coe hit Gallegos with a right punch to the jaw, knocking his head back. In the second round, both had their moments until the final minute, when Coe again rocked Gallegos with a right punch to the chin, rocking him. In the final minute of the third round, Gallegos began to attack Coe’s body and took his first round.

In the fourth round, from the middle to the bell, Gallegos landed half a dozen unanswered punches at times. He dominated Coe. Midway through the fifth round, a body shot from Gallegos dropped Coe to the floor and referee Eric Dali made it an eight count. Coe came back well in the final seconds.

In the seventh round, Gallegos picked up where he left off, going to the body of Coe, putting him on defense in the middle, landing three rights, a chin uppercut from Gallegos in the second, and Coe going down from a body shot for one 8 count.

In the eighth round, in the first minute, Gallegos dropped Coe with a body shot, scoring the third knockdown of the fight. In the ninth round, Gallegos came out, landed four punches to the chin and went down when referee Dali waved him off.

Former WBA International and IBF North American middleweight champion, southpaw Austin “Ammo” Williams (17-1, 12 KOs), stopped Gian “Double G” Garrido (11-2, 8 KOs) at 1:04 of the fifth of eight scheduled rounds rounds.

In the final minute of the first round, southpaw Williams landed a big left shot on Chin Garrido, causing a stir in the crowd. In the second round, swelling began under Garrido’s right eye. In the last minute of the third round there was an exchange of blows, with Williams having the upper hand.

In the fourth round, Garrido came back well enough to win the round. In the fifth round, Williams opened up, with Garrido’s face completely smashed from numerous punches and lying on his feet before referee Harvey Dock stepped in and Garrido’s head bounced off like a rubber ball.

Southpaw welterweight Ish “The Chef” Muhammad (6-0, 3 KOs) defeated Nelson Morales (5-19, 2 KOs) over six rounds.

In the first two rounds, Muhammad dominated with his hand and foot speed. In the third round, in the final 30 seconds, Muhammad landed a lead left to the chin and stopped Morales. Morales was more reminiscent of a wrestling match than a boxing match.

In the fourth and final round, Muhammad landed multiple three-punch combinations.

The results were 40-36, 40-36 and 40-36.

The referee was Ricky Gonzalez

Super bantamweight southpaw Dennis Thompson (3-0, 1 KO) defeated Edgar Ortiz, Jr. (8-6-2, 4 KOs) over four rounds.

Super featherweight Zaquin Moses (1-0) defeated Michael Ruiz (1-5) by a four-round decision.

The ring announcer was David Diamante.
