Bronny James Demoted to Lakers’ G League Affiliate (Report)

The Los Angeles Lakers are breaking up the NBA’s first father-son duo – for now.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Bronny James — the Lakers’ rookie and son of LeBron James — has been demoted to LA’s G League affiliate.

James Jr. played four games for the NBA team and made history playing alongside his father, the league’s all-time leading scorer. However, James Jr. is still considered a raw professional player and will now start a “shuttle” between the NBA’s LA Lakers and the G-League’s South Bay Lakers, Charania reports.

James Jr. is expected to make his G League debut Saturday against the Salt Lake Stars. Charania reports that the plan for James Jr. is to only have him play for South Bay in home games as he moves back and forth between teams.

James Jr. has been a lightning rod this season, entering the NBA with high expectations and a whirlwind of media coverage. James Jr., a highly rated prospect, spent one season at USC but missed time after suffering cardiac arrest.

Despite critics’ concerns about his NBA fitness, James Jr. was selected by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

In four games, James Jr. has played a total of 13 minutes and shot 1 of 6 balls from the floor.
