California prosecutor Pamela Price recalled the “progressive left” crime policy

Alameda County, California, District Attorney Pamela Price was ousted early Wednesday, less than two years after taking office, following backlash over her alleged soft approach to crime.

The effort was supported by the Save Alameda for Everyone (SAFE) recall committee and passed with 64.8% of the vote, according to Alameda County poll results. The committee includes former Alameda County prosecutors, county residents, community activists and victims and families of crime victims, according to the committee’s website.

“It’s been a long, hard 18 months and we hope things change for all victims,” SAFE Director Brenda Grisham told Fox News Digital. “And we’re not just talking about laws that exist, but she came into office and implemented her own laws and they simply were not conducive and safe for the citizens of Alameda County.”

“They spoke their minds yesterday and I’m so excited,” Grisham said.

“We are grateful to the voters of Oakland for recalling Sheng Thao and Alameda County for recalling Pamela Price,” Huy Nguyen, president of the Oakland Police Officers Association, said in a statement. “Voters recognized that their progressive left-wing policies directly harmed and impacted residents, neighborhoods, working and middle-class families, and small businesses.”

The group submitted the necessary paperwork to begin fundraising for the effort in July 2023. According to the New York Post, the recall campaign had collected nearly 75,000 validated signatures as of May of this year.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors has set a November 5 recall election date in May.

Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao was also removed from office after her recall effort passed with 65% of the vote.

Several Alameda County families had spoken out against Price in the months leading up to her recall vote.

Florance McCrary, whose 22-year-old son was shot and killed by a stray bullet in 2016, became a vocal advocate for Price’s removal after she abruptly dropped murder charges against her son’s alleged killer last year.

“I was completely shocked,” McCrary told Fox and Friends Co-host Pete Hegseth. “It was incredible to realize that the fight that took more than six years to get there had been undone. And as we sit there in court and even learn from the judge, that’s the best thing we can do.”

“There are so many more ballots to be counted, and in areas where I know we got our message across well,” Price said in a released statement. “The Registrar of Voters estimates that hundreds of thousands of ballots remain to be counted. The next update will be released later this week. I am optimistic that when all votes are counted, we can continue the hard work of transforming our criminal justice system.

California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell also supported the recall vote and held a press conference in October arguing that Price had failed victims of violent crime, according to KTVU.

“The police catch and Price releases him,” Swalwell said.
