In many states, including Arizona, public records laws make personal information about voters and their voting habits available to the public.

That explains why you may have received a letter in the mail containing your name, address and voting history, informing you that the organization, the Center for Voter Information, will track whether you voted in the 2024 presidential election. But can they see who you voted for?

Can people see who I voted for?

According to the nonpartisan National Conference of State Legislatures, voters’ names, addresses, party affiliations and voting history are public information. This information can be viewed by candidates, political parties and the public.

While your participation in elections is public information, who you voted for is not public information. Whether you voted is public knowledge. The candidate you voted for is private information.

Can I make my voter list private?

Maricopa County says some people have the right to make their voter information private. These include, but are not limited to, police officers, correctional officers, public defenders, prosecutors and people who have been issued protective orders.

Individuals requesting deletion of personal information may have their name, address, telephone number, and county number kept from public records.
