Carlos Alcaraz ends ATP Finals training early due to health concerns

Carlos Alcaraz has abandoned his final training session for the ATP Finals as he continues to battle illness.

He completed less than 10 minutes of light exercise on Tuesday before returning to his hotel Point of break.

The Spanish tennis star suffered a surprise defeat against Casper Ruud in his opening match in Turin on Monday.

Alcaraz appeared to be well off the pace, with the 21-year-old blaming his health, fatigue and the arena for his poor performance.

Now his availability for his next game in the season-ending tournament is questionable.

“As soon as he moves a little, he has difficulty breathing,” Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero told the media.

“His chest is a little tight. A bad time to get sick.”

“We cannot predict whether he will play tomorrow or not. We all played under these circumstances.”

Alcaraz’s coach then admitted that “it will be difficult for him to be at 100 percent tomorrow.”

He is scheduled to play against Andrey Rublev on Wednesday, but his failure to complete a full training session in less than 24 hours raises serious doubts about his availability.

Former champions Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas are available as substitutes in Turin.
