Central school doors locked after “incident” on Friday morning

This stone marks the historical significance of Central Elementary School in Des Plaines.

All doors at Central Elementary School in Des Plaines were locked for part of the day on Friday, November 7, preventing anyone from entering or exiting the building.

The effort to “secure” the building took place from 11 a.m. until about mid-afternoon after Des Plaines police were notified that an incident had occurred near the school around 11 a.m. Neither school nor police officials provided information about the nature of the incident. However, it is suspected that it was a disturbed woman on school grounds. There were no arrests or weapons found.

According to a statement from District 62, “as part of Secure Action, kindergarten students were able to safely exit and enter the building during morning dismissal and afternoon arrival.”

As a precautionary measure, students remained in school until the end of the day.
