How many teams are participating in the 2024 College Football Playoff?

Twelve teams will qualify for the College Football Playoff in the 2024-25 season, a significant change from the four teams selected for the playoff field in the last decade.

How does the College Football Playoff format work?

The new 12-team College Football Playoff will feature four conference champions, who automatically secure the top four contenders. The four best-placed teams receive a bye in the first round and advance directly to the quarterfinals. The remaining eight teams compete for spots in Groups 5-12 and play their games on the home field of the higher-ranked team.
