College Football Rankings: ESPN releases updated FPI Top 25 after Week 11 with new No. 1

ESPN’s latest college football rankings are here after the network updated its FPI Top 25 following Week 11 of the season.

After a few upsets and some clear wins, there’s a new No. 1 team in ESPN’s FPI. Ole Miss beat Georgia, Alabama beat LSU, Miami fell to Georgia Tech. Man, oh man. A lot has happened!

After Week 11 of action, let’s dive into ESPN’s new FPI rankings.

Alabama absolutely dominated LSU on the road in Baton Rouge, 42-13. Was that necessarily to be expected? Probably not. To the top of the FPI!

Jalen Milroe threw for just 109 yards but ran 12 times for 185 yards and four touchdowns. The defense forced two interceptions from Garrett Nussmeier.

Texas wasted no time heading home after a 49-17 victory over Florida. The Gators came to town and were just down.

Quinn Ewers threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns and had the rest of the day off. An easy day for the Longhorns, who remained atop the SEC standings.

Ohio State has fallen behind Texas in the FPI only because of the Crimson Tide’s rise to the top. The Buckeyes beat Purdue 45-0, so there was no chance of an upset.

Will Howard threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns through the air while also catching one on the ground. In the running game, TreVeyon led Henderson with 85 yards on six carries and six touchdowns.

Notre Dame was done with Florida State fairly early and the Fighting Irish’s winning streak continued. A 52-3 victory was the Seminoles’ last win, as they fell to 1-9.

Essentially, Notre Dame took care of business and moved up one spot in the FPI. Next up for Virginia is a ranked game against Army at home.

Hey, how about Ole Miss? Lane Kiffin and Co. improved one place in the FPI with a 28:10 win over Georgia.

This is a game they had to have. Ole Miss still has two losses, so every game is important to the CFP chances, but man. What a victory. The defense shut down UGA’s offense, forcing another Carson Beck interception and not allowing a single rusher more than 47 yards.

Speaking of Georgia, the Bulldogs fell two spots in the FPI after that loss. Remember when there were questions, “What’s going on?” Well, they’ve been answered.

Kirby Smart’s offense isn’t working right now. Beck struggled a lot and even though Georgia was an away favorite, Georgia lost to Ole Miss. It’s still surprising, isn’t it? The playoff hopes are on thin ice.

There was nothing new for Oregon this weekend, and nothing moved in the FPI either. A 39-18 win over Maryland was just the final game.

At 10-0, the Ducks remained atop the Big Ten standings in their first week as the CFP’s No. 1 team. Two more games to secure an undefeated regular season and the top spot in the Big Ten.

The Nittany Lions are back in the FPI top 10 with a 35-6 win over Washington. It was exactly the reaction James Franklin and Co. had to give after the loss to Ohio State.

Remember, this team is still 8-1 overall and clearly in the playoffs. Some strange things would have to happen to get to the Big Ten title game, but stranger things have happened.

Tennessee picked up another win and improved to 8-1 overall, but lost a spot in the FPI. The biggest concern is QB Nico Iamaleava, who left the game with an injury.

Head coach Josh Heupel was just cautious and held him back in the second half. However, Dylan Sampson got the offense going and finished the game with 149 yards and a touchdown in the 33-14 win.

There’s the Indiana wagon. Well, it wasn’t as dominant this week, so the Hoosiers stayed at No. 10 in FPI.

Still, Indiana improved to 10-0 with a 20-15 win over Michigan and set a new school record for wins. It was closer than expected, but this team is very close to a spot in Indianapolis. Next? Ohio State next week in Columbus.
