Contract negotiations with Trent Alexander-Arnold are stalling as Liverpool hesitate to offer higher salaries than two top stars

CONTRACT talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold are stalling – as Liverpool hesitate to offer him higher wages than Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds are negotiating with all three stars to extend their contracts, which expire next summer, which has complicated matters at Anfield.

At 26, Alexander-Arnold is younger than Salah (32) and Van Dijk (33) and would have a far higher resale value than his teammates if he decides on his future.

But Liverpool are aware that offering the right-back the biggest deal of all three could cause unrest, particularly midway through the season.

Liverpool have made several offers to improve Alexander-Arnold’s £180,000-a-week contract amid strong interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but have yet to reach an agreement.

The England defender has yet to make a decision on his future, despite a Spanish newspaper claiming that Liverpool “already know he won’t renew”.

Although he has not asked to be on par with Van Dijk and Salah, who are currently on £220,000 and £350,000 a week respectively, he could earn more at both PSG and Real.

The Spanish club in particular has become experts at offering high salaries and transfer fees to players whose existing contracts are expiring.

And Alexander-Arnold has long been a target for Real, leading to concerns at Anfield that he is the least likely of their star trio to sign a new contract.

Van Dijk would like to stay at Liverpool but is in a stalemate over the length of the contract the club will offer him.
