Costco Butter Recalled: 80,000 pounds recalled due to unusual mislabeling

Nearly 80,000 pounds of butter sold at warehouse chain Costco are being recalled due to an undeclared allergen.

In October, the Food and Drug Administration recalled 79,200 Kirkland Signature butters from Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC due to an undeclared allergen. The recall was reclassified to Class II on November 7 to indicate that the product “could cause a situation in which use or contact with a violating product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.”

The FDA said salted and unsalted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter lists cream as an ingredient, but may not contain a “contains milk” allergy claim on the packaging.

The recall concerns:

  • Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter, 16 oz. four 4 oz. Sticks, UPC 96619-38496
  • Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, 16 oz. Four 4 oz. Sticks, UPC 96619-38488

The products have a “Best Buy” date between February 22, 2025 and March 29, 2025.

If you purchased Kirkland Signature butter on or before October 11th and it matches the recall information and you are sensitive or allergic to milk, you should discard it or return it to Costco for a refund.
