Could Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill be facing surgery?

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill remains a question for the The team’s Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams, and now there are new questions about the severity of his wrist injury.

Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said during his weekly appearance on South Florida television station WSVN that his superstar client is doing everything in his power to get a chance to play against the Rams, a game the Dolphins desperately need if they hope to get in to be able to make a playoff push in the second half.

More interesting and potentially problematic, however, was what Rosenhaus didn’t say.

In light of a social media post based on an overheard conversation by a non-journalist, Rosenhaus was asked whether Hill might consider surgery if the Dolphins’ prospects get worse than they already are.

If the idea of surgery were absurd or inappropriate, one would think that Rosenhaus would have quickly dismissed the idea.

Instead, he said this: “You know, this is not something I want to discuss publicly. I think this is something that will really be an internal matter at the moment between myself and Tyreek, his family and the team. I know he’s focused on doing everything he can to prepare for tomorrow night’s game. It’s obviously a big game and I think everyone knows how important this game is and that’s what we should focus on now.

Hill missed the final two practices before the Rams game and was listed as questionable on the final injury report.

Before Saturday training, Head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Hill suffered the injury in August during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders and that the issue flared during last Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

It’s not clear exactly when Hill aggravated the injury, but he grabbed his left wrist and called for the play after Raheem Mostert ran a running play from him in the second half, just before Hill returned and scored a 28-yard reception to set up a Dolphins field goal.

Doctor Jesse Morse, owner of @InjuryExpertz and known as “Fantasy Doc,” suggested that surgery may be necessary to correct the problem based on the information he has (and not an in-person examination).

Before appearing on the injury report during the week of the Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals due to a foot injury sustained in practice, Hill had not been on the injury report all season except for missing practice here and there missed day due to a break.

Hill has missed one game since joining the Dolphins via trade in March 2022, last December when he sat out the 30-0 win over the New York Jets due to an ankle injury.

Despite appearing in every game this season, Hill is on pace to finish with 948 yards, which would be just the third time in nine NFL seasons that he failed to reach 1,000 yards.
