Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush was benched and replaced by Trey Lance after struggling in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rush completed 13 of 23 passes for 45 yards and two fumbles for a loss before being replaced by the fourth-year quarterback.

Lance filled in for the 30-year-old Rush early in the fourth quarter, completing 4 of 6 passes for 21 yards and an interception.

The quarterback change comes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Dak Prescott planned to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn hamstring, pending a final specialist’s opinion.

Rush took over the quarterback position during the Cowboys’ 27-21 loss in Week 9 to the Atlanta Falcons, where he completed 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards, one touchdown and one fumble.

New reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport indicate that Prescott is “hoping to avoid surgery.”

“My understanding, as I discussed with Tom Pelissero yesterday, is that the likely option for Dak Prescott is surgery, and that would obviously take him out for the season,” Rapoport said.

It seems likely that the 3-6 Cowboys will have to keep their options open at the starting quarterback position for the remainder of the season when they face the Houston Texans at home in Week 11.
