“Death Belongs to Her” creates million-dollar magic on Broadway

Death suits herthe new musical adaptation of the 1992 fantasy comedy, has worked some Broadway magic in its second week since performances began at the Lunt-Fontanne, posting impressive box office returns $1,073,018 for seven previews and filling 98% of the venue’s seats.

The musical with Megan Hilty, Jennifer Simard, Christopher Sieber and Michelle Williams in the leading roles was by far the most popular among the previews, while other newcomers mostly failed to reach the 80 percent mark:

  • A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical Studio 54 was at 75%, gross receipts $516,874;
  • Maybe a happy ending with Darren Criss and Helen J Shen filled 78% of the seats at Belasco and generated revenue $294,871;
  • Tammy Fayethe Elton John-Jake Shears musical, ran six previews at the Palace, taking only 64% of the seats and grossing $319,918;
  • Swept awaythe musical, with a score by the Avett Brothers, began its previews at the Longacre and generated revenue $357,470 for five previews, with attendance at 82% of capacity.

Some other notable numbers:

  • Romeo + Juliet, which opened Oct. 24 at Circle in the Square, moved in $1,016,266 for the first full week after opening with SRO attendance at 102% of capacity;
  • Sunset Blvd. extrapolated $1,723,064nearly $60,000 more than the previous week as the average ticket price increased from $133 to about $142; Attendance was 95% of capacity at St. James, compared to 97% the previous week;
  • The outsiders was another SRO with about 101% occupancy at Jacobs and a gross profit of $1,331,594;

There were more sell-offs McNeal And Oh, Mary!with Evil close to 100% and, as far as the dollar is concerned, it tops the list again with great success $2,279,448 take.

In total, the 36 Broadway productions generated revenue $32,939,767 for the week ending November 3rd, a decrease of approximately 3% compared to the previous week, with a total attendance of 285,801 keep calm.

The previous season, Broadway, in week 24 of the 2024-25 season, earned revenue $751,471,960about 11% more than last year at this time, with a total attendance of 6,116,620increased about 10%.
